Here Manang Norma is recorded by Prof. Val Dones, as she walks to local shops in Manila at the end of the rainy season, October 2023.

In her second film Manang Norma and Prof. Val Dones walked near their home on a sunny but humid morning during the rainy season of July 2024.

This documentation was taken as Lena walked in the country near Tromsø in December 2023, during the polar night season.

Lena then revisited the same walk with her neighbour’s dog during the spring and summer, and reflects on how walking with pain in contrasting conditions creates a sense of ongoing relationality with the landscape when walking.

This film shows John on his walk home in busy central Manila and was filmed in January 2024 during the cooler, dry season.

John’s second film was recorded in Manila during the July rainy season as he passed by the university on his way to work.

Here Branwen’s films and commentary compare her experiences of walking with pain to her recent enjoyment of the long distance Camino de Santiago in May 2024.

This film shows the variety of Branwen’s walks in different environments such as Kerala, India and the Camino Portuguese Coastal Way from Porto to Santiago in 2024.

Sample Films #1, 2 & 3

These first film responds to Fe walking in the South Downs National Park during July 2023.

This film was taken by Fe and responds to Fe’s documentation of urban walking and waiting experiences captured the during the winter of 2023, juxtaposed with the spring of 2024.

Here, Fe’s film shows a further development, as documentation of her walking in an urban setting is superimposed over film taken with the phone fixed to her dog’s harness when walking local rural paths.

This documentation records Jeni walking in her local area of Winnipeg with Patty Thille during autumn/fall, September 2023.

In Jeni’s second film she used the camera to capture different perspectives of walking in Winnipeg. By attaching the camera to her leg, and using it to view upwards, she captured alternative perspectives and worked with Shirley to find ways to show the landscape in movement.

Natalie Sharratt, UK

Sample Films #1 & 2

Natalie’s first walk was documented in conversation with Prof. Roger Kerry as they walked in a Nottingham park in September 2023.

Natalie’s second film uses footage she recorded and a poem Natalie wrote about her pain. Working with Roger Kerry and Shirley Chubb, the film was edited to include precise effects that reflect Natalie’s experiences and the relationship she has developed with the environments she walks in.

Shirley Chubb, UK

Shirley took this experimental footage of walking by strapping a mobile to her foot. The film reveals the complexity of walking from a very different perspective and was captured on the edge of the South Downs in August and November 2023.
